The Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball team is well aware that they need to finish the regular season looking much better than they have for most of the year. It didn't seem they would do it in the first few innings against Purdue on Thursday.
The Huskers fell behind 8-0 early on but almost immediately started rallying. Six runs in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth tied the game, and then NU went on to score three in the eighth and won 11-9. A big rally kept them within yelling distance of the Big Ten tournament.
The way that other games played out on Thursday night, the Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball team's magic number to get to the Big Ten tournament is 1. Win on Friday or Saturday, and they're in. Win both, and they're in a while making a case for an at-large bid to regionals.
Nebraska Cornhuskers softball readies for regionals
While the Nebraska baseball team is hoping to get to the Big Ten tourney and regionals, the softball team is already in the postseason and will see the first pitch on Friday afternoon.
The Huskers take on UCONN at 2 p.m. on Friday. The game will be televised on ESPN+, and Jordy Bahl will, unsurprisingly, be on the mound. The candidate for player of the year will be doing what she does and why the Cornhuskers went out and got her.
Football recruiting goes global
The Nebraska football team is targeting one of the best international recruits in the 2026 class. After making Valdin Sone's Top 8, defensive line coach Terry Bradden will visit Sone's home country with the player and his family.
At the very least, the Huskers have upped the ante for the big defensive tackle who college football's best teams have recruited since he was a 9th grader.
Demitrius Bell's comeback bid
Demitrius Bell missed all of the 2024 season after suffering an injury in Nebraska's spring game. Now he's looking to make a big comeback, and head coach Matt Rhule seemingly signed off on big things coming on social media earlier this week.
Win total set by Vegas.
The Huskers have had their win total set by Vegas, and it seems oddly low. FanDuel has set the over/under at 7.5, and eight wins seem like the absolute minimum the Nebraska Cornhuskers can win without Matt Rhule on the hot seat.
