Since Matt Rhule arrived in Lincoln, there has been some real excitement over what is expected of the Nebraska football program. That's despite the fact that the Huskers finished 5-7 and missed a bowl game for what feels like the millionth time in a row.
It's normal for fans to be excited about the upcoming season, especially when they sign a 5-star quarterback. It's in fact, signing the first 5-star quarterback since that kind of thing was tracked. But it's not just fans that believe this could be the year that the Cornhuskers finally turn the corner.
247Sports put out an article on the teams they beleive could be the ones that will finally have a breakthrough.
"There is a path to nine wins (or more) for Nebraska this season if the Huskers are able to establish early momentum with a favorable slate by Big Ten standards and get a boost of confidence under five-star freshman quarterback Dylan Raiola, should he be Rhule's selection to start. The Huskers could be favored in their first seven games prior to a road trip to Ohio State. "
While Nebraska football fans would likely prefer if the team was going to get a breakthrough because they're considered strong from top to bottom. But this year, with all the struggles the program has seen, a weak schedule is nothing to sneeze at.
Nebraska football named as 'potential breakthrough' team in 2024
Raiola isn't the only reason why the Nebraska Cornhuskers are considered a team that could finally find a breakthrough. Matt Rhule and company have added quite a bit of talent to the roster.
He's also reshuffled the Nebraska football coaching staff just enough that the freshman quarterback should be able to get a bit more tutelage than Heinrich Haarberg, Jeff Sims and Chubba Purdy got in 2023. Glen Thomas could be the secret weapon in helping NU get that breakthrough.
