Can Nebraska get five more? 3 burning questions on another massive weekend

Nebraska has another big weekend on tap, what are the biggest storylines that will pop up?

Nebraska had one heck of a weekend to start the month of June. While this weekend won’t match the number of visitors coming into Lincoln, there are still several prospects taking in the sights and sounds of NU. Matt Rhule and Co. would love to come away with another bunch of prospects, perhaps even enough to effectively call it a class for 2027.

The Huskers roped in a total of six commits from last weekend’s visit, and all but one of those had pulled the trigger on a pledge by Sunday morning. Nehemiah Ombati was the only one who didn’t officially announce his commitment until the weekend was over, but he eventually joined the bunch with his own call on Wednesday.

So can Nebraska have the same kind of success it had last weekend? Can they go a full 7-for-7? That last bit isn’t totally out of the question, though the Husker staff will have to have one heck of an approach and get some serious plaudits if it happens. There are three storylines from this weekend that Cornhusker fans should really keep their eyes on.

Is this when Jailen Hill commits to Nebraska?

One of the players that’s long been considered a heavy Husker lean who still hasn’t officially committed is 4-star defensive back Jailen Hill. The St. John Bosco (Bellflower, CA) prospect expects to name his future school after this weekend’s official visit. It’s hard to believe, given the timing, that his pick is anyone but the Cornhuskers.

If and when he does commit to Rhule and Co. this weekend, it will be another big win for the staff, especially defensive backs coach Addison Williams, who has already had a very solid couple of cycles. In addition to the Huskers, Hill has offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Indiana, Maryland, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M, UCLA, USC, and Washington, among others.

Can Nebraska grab a defensive back away from Florida?

One of the least-talked-about recruits to visit this weekend is Kamauri Whitfield. The reason why he’s not been a huge topic of conversation among Husker fans is that he’s long been a very strong lean to the Florida Gators. Among the predictions that he’ll eventually head to Gainesville was Steve Wiltfong’s, which was entered at the end of May.

Still, Nebraska has got the First Academy (Orlando, FL) prospect into town this weekend along with several other high-profile targets. That he’s willing to take an official visit to Lincoln shows he’s at least willing to give the staff a chance to show what they have to offer and how they see him fitting into Rob Aurich’s new defense. Yet another potential Addison Williams win here.

Missouri flip is a big target for Nebraska

Lee’s Summit North (Lee’s Summit, MO) linebacker Caleb Green is currently committed to the Missouri Tigers, but it appears he wants to make sure the grass isn’t greener in Nebraska. Green, who is the No. 59 linebacker and No. 11 player in the state of Missouri according to the Rivals Industry Ratings, offers the Huskers the chance to flip a player from an old rival for the second straight weekend.

Green does have one prediction from Rivals’ analyst Bryan Munson to flip to the Huskers. Entered on June 11, it is worth noting that the prediction is just 50%, so this isn’t a given. Still, the somewhat under-the-radar prospect could very well pull the trigger on a Nebraska commitment before the weekend is out.
