Nebraska football had a heck of a weekend, reeling in five different commitments out of 16 visitors. However, one expected commitment didn’t materialize, meaning Monday could bring more good news for Matt Rhule and Co.
Nehemiah Ombati hasn’t pulled the trigger for the Huskers just yet, but when it comes to recruiting analysts’ predictions, it’s just a matter of time. It felt like the 3-star defensive lineman would be the sixth commit of the weekend, but the announcement never came. That didn’t stop Rivals analyst Sean Callahan from entering a new prediction just before midnight.
Callahan’s prediction for Nebraska to land Ombati followed the predictions of Tim Veghese, Allen Trieu, Greg Smith, and Steve Wiltfong, all of which were entered on Saturday morning. Those entries followed Bryan Munson, who chose the Huskers as the eventual winner of this particular race on June 3. Six people all projecting a commitment are generally never wrong, so with the sunrise on Monday now here, could NU get at least one more commitment from the massive weekend?
The Cornhuskers have long been thought of as the frontrunners for Nehemiah Ombati. Last month, the Shakopee (Shakopee, MN) cut his list to three schools. The Huskers joined Michigan State and Missouri as finalists.
Nehemiah Ombati could give Nebraska football another defensive line commitment
The Tigers were once widely viewed as the early leader, but the race seems to have changed since he announced those final three teams. Ombati has already made two visits to Colombia and is scheduled to return for an official visit on June 12. Nebraska coaches likely hope he’ll forego that visit, but it's possible he’s waiting until he makes that third trip to Columbia before he officially decides where he’ll spend his college days.
Ombati, the No. 41 defensive lineman in the class and the No.2 player in the state of Minnesota according to the 247Sports Composite, recorded 70 tackles, 6 tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks in his junior season. It’s no mystery why the Huskers would want to make sure he’s a part of their defensive line class for 2027.
Nebraska currently has three defensive line commitments in the cycle, with two of those, Errol Demontagnac and Ma'atoe Moe, joining
Jayden Travers this weekend, new DL coach Roy Manning is on quite a hot streak. Now he just needs to close the deal with Nehemiah Ombati and keep one of NU's best classes in years rolling along.
