The Nebraska football team is a finalist for one of the better defenders in the 2027 class.
The announcement this weekend that Shakopee, Minnesota, defensive lineman Nehemiah Ombati has narrowed his final three teams he's considering. Nebraska football is in the final three for Nehemiah Ombati but still chasing Missouri
According to 247Sports, Ombati holds an 89 rating—technically the highest possible grade for a 3-star prospect. In reality, that number puts him right on the fringe of 4-star status, and he’s widely viewed as just a step away due to the fine margins in recruiting evaluations. His rating currently slots him as the No. 35 defensive lineman in the 2027 class and the No. 2 overall prospect out of Minnesota.
While Nebraska would love to get a win here, the Tigers are widely viewed as the early leader, but the race is far from over. Ombati has already made two visits to Colombia and is scheduled to return for an official visit on June 12. Michigan State will host him for an official visit on June 5, marking his second trip to East Lansing.
Nebraska football needs to turn April momentum into an official visit with Nehemiah Ombati
Nebraska is the most recent finalist to enter the mix, offering Ombati in January. Despite the late push, the Huskers got him on campus on April 21 and are working to lock in an official visit for June. One potential date is June 19, when the Big Red are already set to host 10 other 2027 recruits, including six current verbal commits.
Nebraska has had a bit of an up and down the last couple of weeks. On Sunday, the Huskers were beaten out for arguably the top prospect on both the football and basketball teams' boards. LSU scored Ahmad Hudson, who had been seen as an NU lean at one time before deciding to stay closer to home with the Bayou Bengals.
