The Nebraska basketball team has been very active this week when it comes to offers. That includes offers to two of the state’s best prospects.

The Nebraska basketball team continued a busy week on Saturday with two new scholarship offers. These two offers might be more important to Nebrasketball watchers than any that have come before them for a very simple reason.

The two offers that Tim Miles dished out on Saturday went to in-state prospects. One player from Lincoln and one from Omaha.

Since Miles has taken over the head coaching job at Nebraska, he’s had some big misses when it comes to players from the state. If there is one thing that could eventually end his career, it could be those misses.

There simply aren’t that many Division 1 prospects coming through the state every year. When they are indeed at that level, they need to be snapped up by the Cornhuskers.

Akol Arop is a special case because he’s a bit of a legacy case. His older brother Aguek had once been a Husker commit. Eventually, things didn’t work out for the two-time player of the year.

Aguek is now headed to San Diego State. That has to be a big loss for Miles, considering the Aztecs have arguably been in a better situation than the Cornhuskers over the last few years.

The younger Arop might not be quite as heralded but he’s got plenty of talent. Playing for Creighton Prep, the power forward averaged 16.0 points per game and 9.7 rebounds per game.

Both of those numbers were improvements over his sophomore year, which was pretty good all on its own. The Nebraska basketball team is the first Power 5 conference team to offer Akol Arop, but there are plenty of programs that have had their eye on him.

The other offer, Donovan Williams has also not gotten a ton of love from Power 5 schools, though that seems to be destined to change for the 2020 prospect in the near future.

The combo guard, from Lincoln Northeast is also a bit of a legacy, though Nebrasketball fans probably hope he won’t follow in his brothers’ footsteps. Donovan’s older brother Bryson, is going to be playing football for the Wisconsin Badgers this fall.

The loss of Williams to Wisconsin, largely because it took so long for the Nebraska football team to offer him, was one of the big mistakes pointed to as yet another reason to fire Mike Riley.

It appears the Nebraska basketball team isn’t going to have that strike going against them at the very least.
