The Nebraska Cornhuskers basketball team was reeling a bit after the Ahron Ulis news, but the commitment of Boogie Coleman softens the blow.

Credit Nebraska basketball coach Fred Hoiberg for moving quickly. It appears that he’s not messing around when it comes to filling holes on his roster. Even if the holes have just started to show up.

On Tuesday, the Nebraska Cornhuskers learned that Iowa transfer point guard Ahron Ulis was implicated in a pretty massive betting scandal that could see his college career come to an end. On Sunday, Hoiberg went out and got the point guard that I’m sure Nebrasketball fans are hoping will be able to step in and take over Ulis’ role with minimal issues.

Jarron “Boogie” Coleman doesn’t hail from a Big Ten school. However, the former Ball State Cardinal does hail from a midwest school and he’s coming off a season where he was named a second-team All-MAC player.

Coleman announced through his Instagram account that he’d committed to the Huskers. It’s not clear if many people out there even knew the Nebraska basketball team had given him an offer.

Nebraska Cornhuskers shore up point guard

The 6-foot-5, 210-pound Coleman could be described as the very definition of being in the right place at the right time. He entered the transfer portal just five days ago as a grad transfer is eligible thanks to a July graduation.

The point guard has been more of a “score-first” type player at Ball State but on a team that is going to be looking for some offensive players to be replaced, that’s not a bad thing.

Coleman has 86 career starts at Ball State, including starting all 30 games for his former school in 2022-23. He led the Cardinals with a career-high 14.3 points and 3.8 assists per game, adding 4.9 rebounds.

If there is a weakness to his game, it’s field goal shooting, as he hit just 38 percent from the field. However, he was able to drain 35 percent of his three-point shots.

In an ideal world, the Nebraska Cornhuskers would be able to have both Ulis and Boogie Coleman on the roster, but it seems more than like that the Ball State transfer will take over for the Iowa transfer.
