The Nebraska Cornhuskers officially unveiled the alternate uniforms they’ll be using against Northwestern and they didn’t exactly excite people.

Over the years, the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team has unveiled a ton of different alternate uniforms. This year is no different as the Huskers will sport a special commemorative uni for their game against Northwestern.

That game will also mark the 100th anniversary of the opening of Memorial Stadium. And as a special nod to 100 years of the stadium, the uniforms will have … blue outlines on the numbers and names.

That appears to be the extent of this particular alt uniform. Not enthused? Neither was most of Husker nation on Tuesday after the unveiling.

One Nebraska Cornhuskers fan called it the “Shane Falco” version as a nod to the Keanu Reeves football movie centered around the NFL strike that had “scabs” playing real meaningful NFL games. The Replacements featured a Washington Redskins squad with an odd amount of blue on their uniforms.

One Twitter poll showed a return of more than 80 percent of fans were underwhelmed or didn’t like them at all.

And quite frankly, it doesn’t feel like it took a great deal of effort or originality to come up with these jerseys. But they are what they are, and the Nebraska football team will wear them this season.

Luke Reimer on a watch list

In news that was a bit more exciting for the Nebraska Cornhuskers, another member of Matt Rhule’s first squad was named to a watch list.

Linebacker Luke Reimer is one of 80 players from across the country named to the Lombardi Award watch list, announced on Tuesday.

Reimer begins his senior season with 245 career tackles, he would need only 39 tackles this season to finish in the top five of all Nebraska football defenders. He’s expected to have a big season for a defense looking for leaders.

Nebraska Cornhuskers star on Japanese national team

Now that Keisei Tominaga is officially returning to Lincoln this fall, Huskers fans can root for his exploits elsewhere as well. That includes as part of the Japanese national team that will be competing in the FIBA world cup later this month.

Nebraska football lands on Big Noon

The Nebraska Cornhuskers will take on a Michigan Wolverines squad that is ranked second in the country in the AP’s first Top 25 of the year. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the game is going to get some hype.

Action Network reports that the Big Ten conference game will be the Fox Big Noon contest on September 30. There is of course a chance that both squads will enter that contest undefeated, as long as the Huskers can take care of Minnesota, and Colorado before their non-conference slate gets considerably easier.

A Look N: Episode 2

The Nebraska football team is doing a kind of Husker-centric Hard Knocks offshoot, showing fans a behind the scenes look at training camp. The second episode launched on Monday night and you can watch it right here:

Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball releases fall schedule

The Nebraska baseball program released its 2023 fall schedule on Tuesday, which includes a pair of home exhibitions it will also feature the return of the Red-White series after taking 2022 off.

That series will feature three inter-squad games from Oct. 10-12 at Hawks Field. They Nebraska Cornhuskers will also play an exhibition game against Omaha on Sept. 29 and another against Cloud County CC on the afternoon of October 7.

I checked so you don’t have to. The October games all come during a bye week for the football team and the contest gainst Omaha will be the day before the Michigan game, so there is no conflict between sports.
