The Nebraska basketball team has landed a guard that will be eligible for 2019. There’s one transfer on the market that could play this season.

While the Nebraska basketball team lost a commit earlier this month, they’ve been working hard to reload and build on what they accomplished last season. One recently announced transfer could go a long way towards helping with that goal.

Seton Hall’s Phillip Flory announced on Thursday that he was going to be transferring. The freshman guard will be immediately eligible with three years left to play at whatever school he chooses.

It makes sense for the Cornhuskers to go after Flory, who could add some depth off the bench. It’s possible he could even compete for a starting job or grab some decent minutes for a Huskers team that was expected to pencil Xavier Johnson into the starting lineup.

Johnson threw those plans into flux just days after Nebrasketball lost an assistant coach in Kenya Hunter. Flory might not have the raw talent of Johnson, but he could make up for the gap with his experience in power conference basketball.

In the 2017-18 season, Flory appeared in 16 games, scored 12 points, had six rebounds, two assists and one blocked shot. Perhaps what makes him even more intriguing is that he was 2 for 6 from three-point land.

The Huskers have room on the roster for him and should moving forward. This coming season he could fill the hole left by Xavier Johnson. The following year, the Cornhuskers will be looking to replace the likes of Isaac Copeland and James Palmer Jr. They might also be looking to replace Isaiah Roby.

Recent commit Dachon Burke would fill one of those spots. Francisco Caffaro, a 7-0 big man who appears high on the Cornhuskers could fill another one.

It wouldn’t hurt to have someone like Flory available to step in. Nebraska basketball has done well turning that kind of player into a productive member of the roster. They should give it another go.
