Nebraska basketball chances remain unknown on Selection Sunday
With Selection Sunday here, opinions differ on the chances of the Nebraska basketball team.
Ask a number of experts whether the Nebraska basketball team is making the NCAA Tournament and you’re going to get different answers. That’s where the Cornhuskers stand on Selection Sunday.
By now, most Husker fans know that ESPN’s preeminent Bracketologist Joe Lunardi doesn’t think NU has a chance in hell. He’s even gone so far as to say that the network will need to replace him if the Cornhuskers make it in.
On the flip side, other ESPN analysts have said they think Tim Miles’ squad still has a chance to get in. Sporting News has claimed the Huskers are still in the conversation.
One of the biggest metrics driven websites on the Internet, Team Rankings.com has also said the Nebrasketball team is a solid entry into the field. That website says there is a 77 percent chance Nebraska gets in and has them listed as an 11 seed.

The most interesting part of that is when looking at the teams the site has projected as an 11 seed, NU has nearly the best odds of the bunch. Only Butler, at 90 percent has a better chance of making the dance.
Among the other projected 11 seeds, Kansas State has a 76 percent chance of getting in, Texas has a 69 percent chance, Middle Tennesee State has a 69 percent chance and the odds of Florida State getting in are set at 45 percent.
Before you start popping champagne corks, keep in mind ESPN believes Texas and Florida State are absolutely in. Lunardi believes Kansas State and Middle Tennesee are definitely out. He had Nebraska as one of the Last Four Out but they now appear nowhere on his bracketology sheet.
The fact of the matter is that no one knows what the field is going to look like. Miles has been campaigning hard ever since the Huskers’ season ended in a blowout loss to eventual Big Ten Tournament champion Michigan.
If the Nebraska basketball team doesn’t get what it wants on Selection Sunday, the 2017-18 season is still going to be considered a success. This is a team that was projected to finish dead last in the conference. Thanks to TBS changing up the way they announced who is in and who is out, we should know quicker than usual whether Miles’ gang made the dance.
