Some prognosticators have said that the chances of the Nebraska basketball making the NCAA tournament are zero but do the Huskers have one last chance?

Following their exit from the Big Ten tournament, it seemed as if the Nebraska basketball team had ended its chances for a bid to the NCAA tournament. As the days since have passed, it appears there is at least a small chance the Cornhuskers could still back their way into the tourney.

On Tuesday afternoon a couple of new prognostications were released that show the Huskers have at least a shot. The first was Teamrankings‘ NCAA Tournament Bracketology.

The website not only projects the seeds of every team in division one but also the odds that they’ll get a bid, and the chances that they are going to get an auto bid.

According to that website, the Cornhuskers are ranked 47th among all teams in Division 1 and they have a 79 percent chance of getting into the NCAA Tournament. Unsurprisingly, they have zero percent chance of getting an automatic bid, since they did indeed lose in the conference tournament. Teamrankings has projected the Huskers to be a 12 seed.

It’s safe to say most Nebraska fans would be perfectly happy to have a 79 percent chance of making it into the dance. Another Bracketologist has the Cornhuskers as firmly in the tournament. In fact, Haslametrics believes the Huskers are one of the “last four byes.”

That means Nebraska doesn’t even have to participate in the play-in game round and will be earning an 11 seed. For what it’s worth, even ESPN doesn’t have the Nebraska basketball team as being a complete lock to miss the NCAA Tournament.

Joe Lunardi now has the Huskers as being part of the “next four out.” That’s certainly not good but at least they are still being mentioned. It also means similar failures by the other schools on the bubble could still change things.

And then there’s this:

One can only hope that Nebraska basketball coach Tim Miles is right. We’ve still got a little while to wait and see.
