The Nebraska baseball team might have hit their low point on Thursday. On Friday and Saturday the team bounced back in a big way.
After dropping to 6-6 on the season thanks to a loss to Cal Poly on Thursday, the Nebraska baseball broke out in a number of ways for three straight wins.
A Cornhusker pitching staff that has struggled most of the season woke up on Friday afternoon and made four runs stand up. Starting pitcher Luis Alverado went seven strong innings, allowing five hits and a walk while striking out eight.
The 4-0 Friday win looked like just what the doctor ordered. On Saturday, the offense more than made up for its struggles the day before as it absolutely exploded in both ends of a doubleheader.
The Huskers won the first game by a whopping 22-3 score. That was the most runs the Huskers have scored in years and showed an offense that does indeed have quite a bit of talent.

If that wasn’t enough, the Cornhuskers blasted Cal Poly in the second game, 13-2. That means Nebraska outscored its opponent 35-5 on the day.
You’re not reading that wrong. The Huskers absolutely dominated the day in a way fans haven’t seen in quite some time.
When looking for offensive heroes in the series, three players stand out. Jesse Wilkening being among those heroes should surprise no one.
The Huskers slugging starting catcher hit .438 with a homer, nine RBI and six runs scored in the series. Those numbers include a performance in the first game where he went 3-5 with three RBI.
First baseman Zac Repinski had an even better series. While he didn’t get a ball to leave the yard, he did hit .529 for the four-game series, drove in seven runs and scored eight.
Another Nebraska baseball star who hits in more than half of his at-bats was Angelo Altavilla. The starting shortstop hit .538 with six RBI and eight runs scored.
Perhaps the most impressive part of the weekend on offense was the ability of the team to drive in runs, without a ton of extra base hits. The team only hit three homers in four games.
While that might also be a bit concerning, the fact that the entire Nebraska baseball team woke up at the same time could be a very good sign. Next up is a mid-week series against Northern Colorado before they kick off conference play in Lincoln against Northwestern.
