The Nebraska baseball team added yet another commit to its 2017 class in the form of Ben Probst.

Probst is a pitcher from Dowling Catholic in Iowa and much like several other recruits for the Huskers lately, it didn’t take long to go from offered, to officially committed. “I took a visit to Nebraska in the spring and I really fell in love with the facilities, the coaches, the fans,” Probst told

“I took a visit to Nebraska in the spring and I really fell in love with the facilities, the coaches, the fans,” Probst told HuskersIllustrated. “I just thought that playing in an atmosphere like that every game would just be fun, plus the tradition there. All that really led me to really want to come to Nebraska.”

Probst is one of those players who seems to have wanted to be a Husker for quite a while, even if he didn’t grow up in Nebraska. He says he reached out to Darin Erstad and staff during his sophomore year. He then  kept in touch as his high school baseball career continued to progress.

It appears Probst is already plenty two-dimensional, having been a starter and a reliever for his high school team. He’s reported to have a fastball that touches the low 90’s as well as a curveball. The pitcher says he’s worked to develop a changeup and it’s coming along nicely.

Probst says the curve is his out pitch. He relies on it to get the big strikeout or to induce a ground ball when a double play is in order. In addition to the Huskers, the newest Nebraska baseball commit was getting attention from Iowa, Bradley, South Dakota State, Purdue and Baylor.

He had official visits lined up with Western Illinois and Purdue, but canceled both once he was offered and then committed. Ben Probst is the 10th Nebraska Baseball commit in the 2017 class.
