Husker recruiting: Alston to visit campus in January

Lavan Alston is going to make his way to Nebraska this January! As you recall from our piece on the Semper Fidelis East-West Bowl game, there was some recruit recruiting going on by Husker commit Eric Lee as he was hanging out with Alston during game preparation. Alston had briefly committed to the OSU program under Coach Riley but was offered by Nebraska on December 26th.

California native Alston, a wide receiver at 6′ 0″ and 170 lbs., would join established receivers Jordan Westerkamp and De’Mornay Pierson-El as targets for the long and short toss down the field. Riley also likes to use his tight ends for passing quite a bit so they should always get a casual mention when talking reception targets. Look to see Alston on campus Jan. 31st. He has other offers from California, Penn St., Georgia and Washington St. to name a few. Let’s hope the chilly temps in Lincoln don’t cool his intentions to join the Huskers.

Other returning Husker wide receivers with strong playing time will be Alonzo Moore (Sr.), Jamal Turner (Medical Sr.), and Lane Hovey (Sr.). As for the tight end positions there are a lot of them out there. Brandon Reilly (Sr.) and Cethan Carter (Sr.) are the two with the most time on the field. Look for Trey Foster (Sr), Sam Cotton (Sr.) and sophomore to be Freedom Akinmoladun to be contributing heavily next season.

Since we are talking tight ends, don’t forget about Husker commit Matt Snyder. He switched over from OSU to the Huskers right before the new year.  He will be one the tallest of the tight ends ducking under the door jamb at 6′ 5″ and 245 lbs. (Nate Meduna and Bryan Reimers are also 6′ 5″ and will be sophomores after redshirt seasons as freshman).

Over the past couple of seasons we learned you can never have enough guys catching the ball because you never know when the injury bug might bite. For now we will just have to wait until it warms up and Spring Practice begins. In the meantime, GO BIG RED!!
