A Power 4 OL transfer just became available and Nebraska football should pounce

The Nebraska football team has very obviously been in the market for transfer offensive lineman and a good one just entered the portal.

It’s no secret that the Nebraska football team has been working pretty hard to bring in an offensive lineman from the transfer portal. So far, they haven’t had much success despite being among the favorites of several guys who went elsewhere.

Earlier on Wednesday morning, another potential target might have just fallen into the Huskers’ lap. As long as they pounce on Sam Pendleton quickly, or rather, if they pounced quickly, it could mean adding a talented player from a team that just finished a run that ended in the National Title game.

Pendleton was a member of the Notre Dame football team that lost to Ohio State in the final game of the season. He’s someone that the Nebraska football team hopefully pivoted to after they lost out on their last target, Shiyazh Pete.

Nebraska football should close quickly on Sam Pendleton

I say that hopefully, the Huskers worked quickly when it comes to the former Irish offensive lineman because when he entered the portal, he did so with a “do not contact” tag. That almost always means that he knew where he was going when he went in.

It’s far more likely that Pendleton is going home, or close to it. Coming out of Reagan High in Pfafftown, North Carolina, it’s likely that he’s headed to an ACC school. As it happens, a new buzzy head coach is leading the Tarheels. I’d guess he’s looking there.

If he’s not headed there, then I hope the Huskers got their feet in the door with the lineman who started seven games for the National Championship runner-up. While he’s not exactly what NU has been looking for, considering he’s an interior lineman and played guard this season, that shouldn’t be a deal breaker.

Nebraska football has shown a propensity to look for flexibility, especially on the offensive line under Matt Rhule. Sam Pendleton would be a massive get for a guy who left Notre Dame not because he couldn’t hack it, but because that team’s o-line depth is rather staggering heading into 2025.
