3 reasons why Isaiah Mozee's addition to Nebraska football is massive
The Nebraska football team got its first commit in quite a while on Friday. 4-star wide receiver Isaiah Mozee committed to the Huskers after things were trending that way for a couple of weeks.
The get is a big one, not the least of which because he’s the first commit since the Cornhuskers went on a bit of a hotstreak in July. The last player to give his pledge was Kade Pietrzak on July 21. Since that time, other teams have been reeling in commitments and NU has had to just sit and wait.
Now that Mozee is on board, the Nebraska football team may be about to make some moves that could have them shooting up the recruiting rankings. That’s important for Matt Rhule’s team as he tries to change the culture that’s set in for the last decade.
Nebraska football recruiting moves inside Top 30
Finishing inside the Top 25 of recruiting classes is important for the Huskers simply as far as perception goes for Matt Rhule and company. They’re never going to be right at the top of the list but they need to be players. According to 247Sports, Mozee’s commitment moves them into 29th.
There’s also the fact that it usually means they’re hauling in more talent than the “also-rans” of the conference. When talking about a world where three or four Big Ten teams will compete for a playoff, that’s important.
Isaiah Mozee saw something special in the Cornhuskers quarterbacks
Mozee clearly liked what he saw from the guys that are going to be throwing him the ball when he officially joins NU next year. That’s Dylan Raiola for sure, but it’s also Daniel Kaelin and TJ Lateef.
That’s noteworthy when you consider that the Oregon Ducks have talent at the quarterback position for sure.
Dad being on the staff means more than just family
While Lamar Mozee coming on board the Huskers might have opened the door for his son to join him, it’s clear this wasn’t just about father and son going to the same place. It was likely more that Isaiah saw that Rhule was someone worth playing for.
It’s worth pointing out that before joining the Nebraska football team, Lamar was at UCF and Isaiah didn’t commit to them. So this isn’t just about being at the same school. It’s about trusting the guys who hired his father.
