While the Nebraska football season is going about as well as anyone could have dreamed, that doesn’t mean Matt Rhule and company are bulletproof. There are some areas where the Huskers are still struggling a bit. Or at least not winning.

One of those was on display earlier this week when the Huskers lost a recruiting battle for a wide receiver prospect some thought NU had jumped back into the lead for. However, Cortez Mills doesn’t look like he’s going to be pried away from Oklahoma.

The Miami wide receiver was back in town for the Nebraska football game against Colorado. He certainly picked the right day to make the trip. And because he did make that trip, despite being committed to Oklahoma, some thought he might be wavering.

There was also a time when Mills looked like a heavy Huskers lean, though eventually the Sooners could get their foot in the door. And earlier this week, Mills came out and posted that he’d solidified his commitment to OU.

Nebraska football loses recruiting battle for Cortez Mills one more time

Mills is considered inside the Top 100 prospects for the 2025 class for 247Sports. He’s also one of the best players in the state of Florida. And despite all of that, he was someone who Matt Rhule made a big impression on.

It’s certainly a bit of a surprise that Mills came to Lincoln to watch them trounce the Buffaloes and see what the Cornhuskers offense can do with a top-of-the-line quarterback at the helm. And yet, Mills saw all of that and decided he still wanted to be a Sooner.

It is of course, possible that the fight for Cortez Mills isn’t over, but it seems like it probably is. At some point the Nebraska football coaches need to move on and spend their time and attention on someone else. It seems as though the Mills saga is over.
