The Nebraska football team has had what can only be described as an up and down run through the 2025 recruiting class. They’ve been considered the front runners of some of the country’s best players for the last few months. But outside of TJ Lateef, they haven’t really reeled them in.

There have been some interesting roller coaster rides along the way towards the end of June. The Huskers thought they had a chance to land Dawson Merritt, but while they were a final two, he chose Alabama

Then there’s Cortez Mills. The wide receiver has spent time as being thought of as a Nebraska football lean. And then considered someone who has left the Cornhuskers in the rear. And then they were in the rearview mirror and then back in contention and then perhaps out of it again.

It’s been a crazy roller coaster ride. And that ride appears to be nearly over. Mills announced on Friday that he’s picking his school on Monday, July 1. And for now at least, the Huskers appear to still be in the running.

Nebraska football’s roller coaster ride with 4-star receiver could end on Monday

The Homestead, Florida wide receiver has a long list of offers. The 4-star took official visits to Clemson, Florida, LSU, Nebraska and Oklahoma. He is now planning to commit to one of those schools next week.

“It is down to those five schools I took official visits to and I will commit to one soon,” he told On3

For those who think Mills has already made the decision and Monday is just a formality, he said that’s not true.

“I am really still thinking about these schools and which is best for me. I still have to figure some things out. When I make the decision, it will be about who I trust the most, who I feel can develop me on and the off the field and where I feel most at home. That is what I am working to figure out this week.”

While it’s felt like Nebraska football was more of an afterthought than anything for the last few weeks. Stranger things have happened. The Huskers will for now, hope he’s still thinking about calling Lincoln home.
