Nebraska football followers know that recruiting is always a rather up and down ride. There’s a reason it’s compared to a roller coaster.
One of the most exhilarating roller coaster rides in this cycle has been the Huskers' journey with Cortez Mills, one of the top wide receivers in the 2025 class. Despite a time when it seemed like they had lost significant ground, the Huskers have shown their resilience and are now back in the game, giving us hope for a successful outcome.
Nebraska football back in the race for top wide receiver target?
It’s hardly an official report, but more like some believable rumblings on the Cortez Mills front for the Nebrska football program. A Twitter account known as Polkway, dedicated to Polk County, Florida, athletics, weighed in on where Mills is going to spend his college days.
That account took to social media last week and dropped a bomb.
“Cortez Mills will not be playing College Football in the SOUTH. That means FLORIDA - SOUTH CAROLINA - NOWHERE. It’s looking very Midwesttyyy.”
That’s a pretty massive turn, considering that Mills has long been thought to be a heavy lean toward the Miami Hurricanes for quite a while now. After the Canes, it was thought Clemson was the front runner. That’s the allusion to South Carolina.
As Nebraska Cornhuskers analyst Tim Verghese pointed out, if the tweet can be taken at face value, that means only Nebraska and Oklahoma are left.
It is of course, hard to believe that the Huskers would surge back into the lead, though a player wanting to leave their home area behind isn’t entirely new. The big question now is what the motivation for that tweet was, and how reliable can it really be.
One thing is certain. At least for now, the fight for Cortez Mills is back on for Nebraska football and it’s going to be one to watch.
