Nebraska football QB commit 'won't speak on' whether recruitment is shut down

Nebraska football fans can't be thrilled to hear that 4-star quarterback commit won't talk about whether his recruitment is shut down, but it might be much ado about nothing.

TJ Lateef’s comments to recruiting analyst Tom Loy on Tuesday demonstrated above all else, that Nebraska football fans better buckle up until signing day in December. It looks like it’s going to be a wild ride until the 4-star quarterback signs on the dotted line.

The Elite-11 signal-caller sat down for a quick interview with Loy that mostly talked about what he’s most excited about when it comes to the Huskers. He also talked about the player he would most like to bring with him to Lincoln. And he talked about being an early enrollee.

However, it was at the very end of the interview that has Nebraska football fans feeling a little edgy, when the California gunslinger was asked whether his recruitment was officially shut down. Lateef paused several seconds and then responded, “recruitment is...I won't speak on that.”

The response even seemed to catch Loy by surprise. Which should maybe tell you that there isn’t as much to read into the comments as some Husker fans believe.

The 247Sports analyst is someone who has talked to Lateef as often as anyone else. He’s also someone who had been banging the Lateef to Nebraska drum pretty loudly in the weeks leading up to his commitment to Matt Rhule and company.

Just before he dropped the “bomb heard ‘round Nebraksa” Lateef made it clear why he had committed to NU in the first place.

“I felt wanted and I felt like that was the place for me to be. Being in Lincoln, there's not a lot of things you can do to get in trouble. Being in Lincoln was a place that my family felt safe with me being in

that environment as I'm leaving them.”

Those comments are going to get read into an awful lot of the next few weeks and months. What hasn’t happened yet though, is that TJ Lateef has not decommitted from the Nebraska football program and fans would be wise to remember that.
