Nebraska football gets back in the game for top wide receiver target

Nebraska football was seemingly beaten out for one of its top wide receiver targets in the 2025 class, but they get another chance this weekend.

“Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in.” - Matt Rhule, probably when he was told that talented wide receiver prospect Cortez Mills is visiting the Nebraska football program this weekend.

There was a time when the Huskers looked like they were frontrunners for the Florida pass-catcher. Then, they fell off in a big way. They fell off so hard that the Oklahoma Sooners secured his commitment. But now?

Now, Mills is reportedly taking in what Nebraska football has to offer when it takes on Colorado and Shedeur Sanders. Even that development is a big one. It appears that Mills is starting to have second thoughts.

Could the Huskers worm their way back into his heart? Perhaps they can even buy their way in. Last week, I noted that NU’s NIL operations are better than people realized. They’re considered as one of the best programs in the country in that regard. Maybe Mills’ love for NU is now backed up by a bigger bag.

Nebraska football gets back in the game for Cortez Mills

On Monday Steve Wiltfong reported that the Huskers are officially hosting Mills for a visit during the game against the Colorado Buffaloes. It appears that efforts even after Mills announced his commitment have hit home.

“The coaching staff really they continuing to recruit me hard,” Mills told Wiltfong of Nebraska. “Showing me I’m still a top priority to they program even though I’m committed.”

The No. 15 receiver and No. 114 prospect overall according to On3 might be giving the Cornhuskers a second life just when the program looks like it’s really starting to roll.

It’s a decent guess that if the Florida wide receiver watched NU’s game against UTEP, he saw an offensive approach that’s quite a bit more attractive than the one that was on display in 2023.

With Dylan Raiola at the helm, the Nebraska football passing game is an actual weapon. Even with Heinrich Haarberg under center, things looked quite a bit better. It’s possible that’s all Cortez Mills needed to see to really give a place he’s like for quite a while, a chance to get back in the game.
