Nebraska football potentially in the driver's seat for 4-star WR

Cortez MIlls has been trying to get to see what Nebraska football offers for quite a while and that could be a very good sign.

While the 2024 Nebraska football recruiting class was quite good, there are a couple of position groups where the Huskers were a little light. One of those position groups just happens to be a bit light on the active roster as well.

That’s why it’s a safe bet that Matt Rhule and company will almost certainly spend a good deal of their recruiting capital on wide receivers in the 2025 class. One of their top targets, Cortez Mills has apparently felt that focus and liked how it’s been.

The Nebraska football staff also seems to have a bit of an in when it comes to trying to get the 4-star Homestead wide receiver to give the Huskers a long look. Mills played for defensive quality control assistant Phil Simpson, who was the head coach of Homestead from 2019 to 2022, when he left the high school to join Rhule in Lincoln.

According to 247Sports’ Mike Schaefer, Mills has liked what he’s heard about what the Huskers have to offer. And that’s one of the reasons he wants to take a visit to see the Nebraska football program in all its glory this spring.

Nebraska football has an in with 4-star WR

If playing for his old high school coach isn’t enough to convince Mills to commit to Nebraska when he does visit, one has to think that getting to play with the top quarterback in the 2024 class might be a bit of a draw.

I have to think that if Mills does come in for a visit, the Nebraska Cornhuskers will try to plan it around the Spring Game. That way he gets to see Rhule’s offense in action, with one of Nebraska’s most prized recruits running it.

That might go a long way towards fending off what are some very high profile teams coming after Cortez Mills.  Florida State, Michigan, Clemson, LSU, Colorado, Georgia and Florida are all in hot pursuit. That’s an impressive list of schools the Nebraska football team will need to stave off.
