Those who aren’t Nebraska football fans want to be Nebraska football fans. That might sound a bit ludicrous in the middle of a period that has seen the Huskers go without a bowl game since 2016. But the proof is in the pudding when it comes to the Tennessee Volunteers.
It appears that Vols fans saw what the Cornhuskers did in regards to David Sanders Jr and said. “we can do that!” But they couldn’t. While they tried to rally like Huskers fans did when the top offensive tackle in the country came to town, the UT fans’ rally simply wasn’t as impressive.
Nebraska football shows up Tennessee fans without even trying
The Twitter account, Vols Highlights posted on Saturday showing the Volunteers’ fans rallying for Sanders ahead of his arrival in Knoxville. It’s clear they saw what Nebraska football quarterback Dylan Raiola and fans did. They wanted to copy it. It fell short.
While fans did show up, the small number made it look more like people weren’t all that excited about the number two prospect in the 2025 class. Or at the very least, the school couldn’t muster the same kind of turnout.
There is of course, no indication that Sanders is going to base his future school on how many people turn out to welcome him. On the other hand, it’s clear the offensive tackle was blown away by how Huskers fans welcomed him.
As the Cornhuskers continue to be a surprise candidate to win over the prospect, any little bit can help. And any little bit in this case, is showing just how gaga NU supporters are compared to the rest of the college football world.
It’s possible Tennessee trying and failing to copy the Nebraska football team’s approach did more damage than if they hadn’t tried at all. And that’s not a bad thing for NU.
