Is it really happening? Is the Nebraska football team the front runner for the top offensive tackle prospect in the country? Could they be close to landing David Sanders Jr?

Not that long ago the answer to those questions would be “of course not,” but things might have changed. At least one recruiting analyst believes things are swinging the Huskers way. The level of coup it would be if Matt Rhule could pull this one off is hard to describe.

On3’s Steve Wiltfong provided a new update on the Providence Day tackle and Nebraska football fans should be excited. “I think people are viewing Nebraska as a real contender here with a few weeks to go,” he wrote.

Nebraska football a shockingly legitimate contender for OT target with ‘few weeks to go’

Wiltfong’s comments come despite the fact that his own site’s RPM still don’t really have the Cornhuskers in the picture. They believe Tennessee is the team to beat. Followed by Ohio State, Georgia and Clemson.

But NU is there. Even if the analysts are still slow to reflect that.

There’s even a chance that David Sanders Jr could take another trip to Lincoln before he pulls the trigger on a commitment. His mother is on record saying they want to take more than one if possible. NU is currently the only one that hasn’t gotten multiple trips. They could be on the top of the list for that reason.

“If Nebraska can get him to campus this weekend, I think that they’re having good dialogue, good conversations with the family behind the scenes,” Wiltfong added.

That makes it rather easy to see if the Huskers are really running in front. Should the find a way to get the offensive tackle to town, things could be going really, really well. This is a race to watch closely for Nebraska football.
