Nebraska football fans can be excused if they’ve been burned by the pursuit of 5-star prospects enough that they don’t really believe that the Huskers have a chance at the top offensive tackle in the country in David Sanders Jr. However, it’s worth pointing out that the Blue Chip still considers NU alive in the race.

On Sunday, Sanders announced that he was both cutting down the teams he’s considering. Even more important than that, he announced when he’ll be making his pledge.

The man who is considered the No. 2 prospect in the entire country by On3 is going to commit on August 17. Just over a month from now, Nebraska football will find out if it’s pulled off the biggest recruiting upset of the class. Could they do it two years in a row?

Nebraska football still in the race for David Sanders Jr. surprises fans

The Huskers are officially among a final four that includes Tennessee, Georgia and Ohio State. It’s felt for a while that the Buckeyes were the front runners, but NU is there. They’re still in the fight.

However, there are some Nebraska fans who feel like they’re not actually in the fight. One fan believes that Sanders only included the Cornhuskers as his Final 4 because he wanted engagement from the very vocal supporters on social media.

“This is just nasty work putting us in the top 4,” the user wrote. “Recruits just want that engagement boost from our fan base.”

Meanwhile, Clemson fans feel like they’ve already been used.

“Takes Clemson off but has Nebraska on this list,” one Tiger supporter posted. “Knew this kid was only after the money.”

But there is at least one analyst who knows a thing or two about the Cornhuskers and what kind of shot they should have with someone like David Sanders, who seems to think they’re legitimately in the race as it enters its final stretch.

Former Nebraska football running back and current broadcaster, certainly seems to think the school has a legit shot. They did, after all, outlast Clemson.
