Can Nebraska football actually close the sale on top offensive tackle recruit David Sanders Jr? While the Huskers were once the darkhorse in the race for the No. 2 player in the 2025 class, it looks like Matt Rhule and company are heading into the lead in the final stretch.

One reason why NU is now considered one of the front runners is because of the weekend they showed the offensive lineman a few days ago. That included a ton of people showing up and showing out to welcome him to Lincoln. It was such an impressive showing, Tennessee even tried to copy it, but fell well short.

Now that he’s taken his final two visits to see Nebraska football and the Tennesee Volunteers, there are more than a few recruiting analysts those two teams are the ones to beat. Now it’s about the Cornhuskers finding a way to shut the door on the SEC squad.

Nebraska football now seen as frontrunner with SEC power for David Sanders Jr.

On3’s Sean Callahan is just one of the guys who believes the race is now not a four-team race and instead is the Cornhuskers and Volunteers.

“For Nebraska, this was their second crack at David Sanders. He was here for his official weekend on Mother’s Day — Dylan Raiola was not in town, though, and that’s kind of the key recruiter for Nebraska with Sanders,” Callahan said. “Raiola led the charge, he was with Sanders when he arrived, was with him the entire weekend, so they’re making a strong push, there’s no doubt. You get the sense right now Tennessee’s probably the team to beat, but I think Nebraska might be running second at this point. I think those are the two teams that have pulled ahead right now.

Sanders will announce his commitment on August 17. While it would still be a bit of a shock if he pulled the trigger on Nebraska football, it’s hard to explain just how much of a coup they’ve created.
