Nebraska football gets AP Preseason Poll love despite no ranking

While Nebraska football isn't starting the season among the Top 25 teams, they got enough votes that there's some people buying stock.

The AP Preseason Poll is officially out and no, of course, the Nebraska football team isn’t among the Top 25. However, despite the fact the Huskers haven’t won more than five games since 2016, they’re getting some love.

NU didn’t really finish anywhere near the Top 25. They received just 16 votes. That puts them tied for 34th. But again, considering how bad things have been for this program for so long, it’s impressive they’re getting any votes at all.

Notably, the Nebraska football team got as many votes as Memphis, who won 10 games last year. The 16 votes is more than Big Ten rival Wisconsin (15) got. It’s, by the way, more than Colorado got (1). You have to think a Buffaloes beat writer was the one who gave Coach Prime that vote of confidence.

Nebraska football gets love without getting a rank

Other teams not getting as many votes as Nebraska are UTSA (6) Tulane (5) Appalachian St. (4) Kentucky (3) Auburn (2) among many others. There’s been a lot of talk about how much head coach Matt Rhule has done to change the culture in Lincoln.

He still needs to figure out a way to actually get that to translate to wins. Though most believe if it’s going to happen, he’s going to do it. It’s not just people in Lincoln that think that either.

Nebraska football making noise

The national media believes that Rhule has got something special going on in Nebraska. They’re not ready to rank the Huskers in the AP Preseason Poll just yet for obvious reasons. He has to beat Colorado before he gets that kind of vote of confidence.

For now, it’s nice to see that if the Cornhuskers can make some noise and win some games, the media is already convinced that the Nebraska football team is among the best programs in the country.
