Nebraska Football currently ranks 19th in the nation, when it comes to returning starters in college football.

In the ever-changing world of the transfer portal, this begs the question: does this ranking produce stability?

First, give credit to head coach Matt Rhule, as his system and approach are clearly resonating with the players. With the transfer portal officially open again, Rhule has been transparent, recognizing the importance of building chemistry and trust within the locker room.

After an impressive year on the defensive side, Nebraska Football also welcomes back defensive coordinator Tony White. During the offseason, White garnered attention as a candidate for several head coaching positions. This, too, brings steadiness to the team.

Over the years, Iowa and Wisconsin have been prime examples of stability, notably the Hawkeyes, led by head coach Kirk Ferentz. Ironically, Iowa currently shares the 19th spot with Nebraska for returning starters, while Wisconsin holds the 12th position.

Nebraska Football has a model it can follow for sustained success

Both Iowa and Wisconsin can serve as models, as their programs' stability has paid off in the win column. Rhule also knows transfers are inevitable. However, he should remain encouraged by players' commitment on both sides of the football.

Notable returning players include defensive backs Tommi Hill and Isaac Gifford and offensive tackle Bryce Benhart. Two familiar names return as running backs, including Gabe Ervin Jr. and Rahmir Johnson. However, both players will expect competition from incoming back Dante Dowdell.

Fan favorite and Lincoln native Malachi Coleman returns for his second season. He will compete with receiver transfer Jahmal Banks to earn his position as one of the go-to guys. Dominant big men defensive tackle Nash Hutmacher and defensive lineman Ty Robinson also return.

Nebraska Football, known for its unwavering loyal fan base, could very well be the next program to produce stability in this new era of college football. Tip your hat to Rhule; he has done something right by garnering the commitment of his players.
