Fall camp is officially coming to a close and game prep week is here. That means that more than ever, the expectations for the Nebraska football team is about to realized, or about to be dashed on the rocks.
While there are people who are warning Husker fans that expectations have been high before, only to see NU break some hearts, things seem different in 2024. More and more analysts believe that Nebraska will make some noise.
Count one high-profile analyst among those who think Nebraska football can make a bowl game at the very least. In fact, Urban Meyer believes the Huskers could be the “surprise team” of the entire Big Ten.
Nebraska football could surprise the entire Big Ten conference
Appearing on The Herd with Colin Cowherd last week, Meyer was asked who he thought was a potential surprise team in the Big Ten. In that question Cowherd mentioned he saw Nebraska as "very interesting."
"You stole my thunder," Meyer said. "People know I'm a Nebraska fan. If I was a player I'd love to go to Nebraska. The history, the stadium, the fans are incredible. We coached out there and they've been down for several years.
"I was shocked on the sideline a couple times we were playing them, and you talk about a team that didn't look like the Nebraska of old. (Rhule) has recruited well, they got the quarterback (Raiola) who is a really good player and I like their coach. He's won at every level."
It’s always nice to hear national analysts talk a good game about the Huskers. This particular analyst was even someone who was surrounded by rumors when the Huskers fired Scott Frost.
There was a pretty big push from some fans to make Meyer the head coach. Instead they went with Rhule. The good news there is that Meyer has continued to be bullish on the Nebraska football team and now he believes they could be the team that offers quite a few surprises for the 2024 season.
