The Nebraska Cornhuskers are in the enviable position of having a very good idea about who their starting quarterback is going to be in 2023. That's allowed them to avoid going after quarterbacks in the transfer portal this offseason.

Teams like Iowa and Northwestern, on the other hand, are still shopping for signal-callers in order to try and boost their room and potentially compete for the starting job. Earlier this week, the Wildcats both lost and then gained a quarterback.

Brendan Sullivan entered the portal in April and went to Iowa from Northwestern. Then the Wildcats, fresh off an 8-5 2023 season, brought in former Vanderbilt quarterback Mike Wright.

Wright joins the Big Ten team in his final season of eligibility. Over the course of his career with the SEC also ran he compiled 2,520 passing yards and 24 touchdowns.

Northwestern is actually the third team Wright will play for in the last three seasons. Ahead of the 2023 campaign, he transferred to Mississippi State after splitting time as a starter at Vanderbilt. For the Bulldogs Wright appeared in 12 games and made three starts, throwing for 453 yards and three passing touchdowns plus 324 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns.

While the Nebraska Cornhuskers and Northwestern Wildcats built up a decent rivalry in the old Big Ten North, the two teams won't face off in the 2023 season, unless they both somehow make the conference title game.
