The last official entry into the transfer portal from the Nebraska football team could be about to head over to a conference rival. Ru'Quan Buckley is taking an official visit to Michigan State this weekend and it appears the visit also tips off why the Huskers lost the lineman at the last possible moment.
Buckley is taking a trip to see what Michigan State has to offer. According to Rivals' Allen Trieu, the visit will allow Buckley to check out a school near his hometown. The defensive lineman turned offensive lineman is originally from the Grand Rapids, Michigan, area.
The Spartans, who were also after the former 3-star prospect when the Nebraska football team won that particular recruiting battle, now have another opportunity. Under the leadership of new head coach Jonathan Smith, they could potentially pull in Buckley.
Accord to Trieu, there's another reason why Buckley is looking in the direction of Michigan State after leaving Nebraska. While Matt Rhule and company felt he might be a better fit for the Huskers on the offensive side of the ball, the Spartans are reportedly looking to bring the player in as a defensive lineman.
Ru'quan Buckley: exploring Michigan State amid transfer speculations
Last year, at his old position, Buckley appeared in eight games including a quarterback hurry and one solo tackle.
Oddly enough, Buckley is just the latest former Nebraska football player to transfer to a Michigan-based school. He's also the second Husker to transfer to Michigan State. Wide receiver Alante Brown joined the Spartans after leaving the Cornhuskers last year.
Linebacker Ernest Hausmann also transferred out from Nebraska not long after Matt Rhule took over as head coach. Hausmann landed with the Michigan Wolverines, though after one successful season with the Wolverines, he got back into the transfer portal.
With Buckley taking in Michigan State this weekend, it seems as though the former Nebraska football player will have his new school quickly.
