Nebraska Cornhuskers face familiar regional foe on road back to Omaha
The Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball team found out where it was headed for the regionals on Monday morning. The good news for the Huskers is they didn't have to spend Sunday night wonderig if they were going to get an at-large big.
The Huskers managed to lock in a big by winning the Big Ten Tournament for the first time in the school's history. Unfortunately, the Cornhuskers also found out on Sunday that they wouldn't be hosting a regional.
Hosting for the first round of the NCAA Tournament was a long shot, obviously, but there was some hope that their run through the tournament might have given them a chance.
Before the Huskers got their regionals pairing, the Top 8 seeds were announced:
1. Tennessee
2. Kentucky
3. Texas A&M
4. North Carolina
5. Arkansas
6. Clemson
7. Georgia
8. Florida State
Nebraska Cornhuskers headed to Stillwater for NCAA Regionals
The waiting to see just where the Huskers were headed was interminable. As one bracket after another was announced, there was definite angst that the selection committee had decided to be "funny" and send Nebraska to College Station to face off against Texas A&M.
After all, they did it twice in the NCAA Basketball Tournament. The storyline of the Cornhuskers facing off against their old AD's team was too delicious for the committee to pass up in that sport. This time around, things were different.
Instead, Will Bolt's squad is headed to Stillwater, to take on Oklahoma State, a familiar foe from the Huskers' Big 12 days.
However, before they get a crack at the number 11 overrall seeded Cowboys, they'll face off against a Florida Gators team that got an at-large bid to regionals despite posting just a 28-27 record.
The other side of the Oklahoma State bracket features Niagara.
Should the Nebraska Cornhuskers advance to the Super Regionals, they'll take on the winners of the Clemson bracket, which features the Clemson Tigers, Vanderbilt, High Point and Coastal Carolina.
