Missouri becomes flip contender for Nebraska football DB commit
With Nebraska football officially kicking off fall camp, there’s a ton of optimism all over Husker Nation. However, on the recruiting front, it looks like a problem might materialize.
It’s a bit ironic, in a Alanis Morrisette kind of irony, that a former Big 8 rival is the team causing the problem. We all hoped their move to the SEC would be the end of really competing with the Tigers for top prospects. Their rise into a legit playoff contender has given them more confidence in this kind of issue.
The Nebraska football team locked down a commitment in the form of Jeremiah Jones last month. However, it appears that commitment is already wavering as he’s taken a visit to Columbia and liked what Missouri had to offer.
Nebraska football has a fight on its hands against the Missouri Tigers
PowerMizzou analyst Sean Williams broke the news on Friday morning that the Huskers have a fight on their hands. Jones took a visit to Missouri and they are a legit player for the Kentucky prospect.
While this might be the first official report that Jones has started looking harder at the SEC school, it’s not the first inkling there was a problem brewing. In fact, it wasn’t long after Jones committed that rumblings began he might not be all that solid.
Such is the way of recruiting in this era of college football. Commitments are more about prospects locking down a spot on a roster, than shutting down recruitment.
The next step for Nebraska football is nailing down the 6-foot-4, 200 pound Murray, Kentucky player. For now, that’s easier said than done. The fight for the 4th best player in the state this cycle will go down to December.
