The Nebraska football team got a recruiting win on Thursday night. It could be in line to get another one on Monday. It would be a heck of a way to kick off the month of July.

It would also be a nice bounceback after June didn’t go quite how head coach Matt Rhule likely hoped it would. After a big recruiting weekend, Brian Tapu was the first commit. And it took a little time before he saw the error of his ways and pulled the trigger for the Huskers.

Now that the Nebraska football team has Tapu in the fold, the need for more players to join him is pressing. The team is eagerly awaiting the decision of defensive back prospect Jeremiah Jones, who is set to name his school choice on Monday, July 1. This announcement timing and the positive views of several analysts are encouraging signs for NU.

Nebraska football defense could be adding a potential blackshirt to kick off July

Jones is an athlete who is considered a 3-star prospect out of Murray, Kentucky who will likely play defense when he gets to college, wherever that may be. And there are more than a few people who think he’ll end up out of state, despite the Louisville Cardinals being one of his finalists.

It does look like it will come down to Nebraska and Louisville. However, according to most recruiting analysts, the Cards are at a distinct disadvantage.

On3 gives the Huskers a better than 76 percent chance of landing the 6-foot-6 athlete. According to the site, Louisville has a 23.1 percent chance of pulling off the upset.

Meanwhile, 247Sports has two predictions for NU and one for Louisville. However, that one prediction for the Cards from Steve Wiltfong came all the way back in October of 2023. The two predictions for Nebraska football came last week.

We’ll find out the final answer on July 1 at 3PM central.
