If the win over Colorado wasn’t fun enough for Nebraska football, things just kept rolling on Monday night. The Huskers secured the commitment of 4-star linebacker Christian Jones.

Jones has long been one of the Huskers top targets and not just because he’s the top player in the state of Nebraska. NU was in a fight but in the end, they emerged the victor. Here’s why his pickup is such a massive boon for the Cornhuskers.

CU had a direct effect on Nebraska football

It felt like the Huskers needed to beat the Buffaloes in order to show everyone they were the real deal. Anyone who thought the win wasn’t all that important because Deion Sanders’ crew wasn’t all that good was proven wrong on Monday.

After committing to the Nebraska football team, Jones made it clear that their performance on Saturday was the final nail of the coffin. Not only was he impressed by what he saw on the field, but he was blown away by the atmosphere in Memorial Stadium.

Huskers take down Oklahoma

There was a time when NU was considered the big loser for Christian Jones as he was thought to be headed to Norman. In the past few years, an OU lean probably meant that he was gone. Oklahoma was considered that much better.

But with the buy-in that Nebraska players are showing under Matt Rhule, it looks like NU really is going to be able to challenge the biggies of the sport for prospects. Yes, staying home played a part, but when OU thought they had this guy in the bag, they ended up losing the fight. That’s massive.

Christian Jones is a national prospect

Yes, the Omaha Westside linebacker is the top player in the state. But he’s also legitimately among the best high school prospects in the 2025 class.

According to 247Sports composite rankings, he’s the 19th best linebacker in the entire class and just outside the Top 150 players in this cycle. And both of those rankings could go up when the rankings are shifted later this fall.

Christian Jones has been pretty dominant so far in his senior season. Nebraska football’s massive get could get bigger before signing day.
