Top in-state target to visit Nebraska football for UTEP game
While the Nebraska football team might have just landed a former 4-star prospect earlier this week, Matt Rhule and the Huskers are hoping to land a 4-star player from just down the road in the next few weeks.
NU will get another shot to put their best foot forward in that regard while they are also busy playing the UTEP Miners. The Huskers will have several different recruits in town to watch the game and that now officially includes Omaha Westside linebacker Christian Jones.
The Nebraska football team has seemingly had some problems in the last few months in locking down Jones who has seemingly been leaning more and more towards old NU rival, the Oklahoma sooners.
Nebraska football gets one more shot at in-state linebacker
Rivals has Jones as not only the top player in the state, but also the No. 6 linebacker in the 2025 class and the No. 77 player overall. It’s no wonder then that the Sooners have been pushing hard to get him to come to the SEC school.
That push seems to be working for sure, but Rivals also reports that Jones is giving the Huskers the Week 1 visit. Obviously, he’s paid visits to Lincoln plenty of times over the last few years, so it’s always possible his most recent visit means he’s giving Matt Rhule and company another look.
It’s hard to know exactly where Jones is really thinking about spending his college years. He’s played things very close to the vest from the outset. Just a month ago, his comments to those who asked made it seem as if it might be a while before he pulled the trigger for any school.
"So right now we are the bottom of the mountain, and we are taking the steps to the top of the mountain," Jones said. "We are not focused on the grand goal, we are focused on the next step."
It’s possible things might start to clear up, or get even more cloudy once he takes in Nebraska football on Saturday afternoon.
