Nebraska football head coach Matt Rhule has all kinds of pressure coming into the 2024 season. There’s the pressure to win as many games as possible. There’s the pressure to break an absolutely insane bowless streak. And there’s the pressure to lock down some of the best prospects in the state.
That last pressure point showed up yet again on Tuesday. Christian Jones has been one of those prospects that has long been hard to nail down. He’s certainly looked like the Huskers were the front runners for a while. But he’s nowhere close to closing down recruitment.
Time might be on Nebraska football’s side but the longer he’s out there, the more teams are going to get in on the action. That was demonstrated when the Auburn Tigers made an official offer to the Omaha Westside superstar.
Nebraska football has another SEC team to worry about for state’s top target

The current predicament for Nebraska football is the role of Auburn in Christian Jones' recruitment. Jones seems inclined to limit his options to the schools he had previously scheduled to visit. The Huskers now face the decision of whether to defend their position against the SEC team or if Auburn’s entry is too late.
There is at least some room for movement. Earlier this week, Jones decided that while USC, Oklahoma, and the Nebraska football team were his Top 3, he did add another official visit. Jones is headed to Missouri for an official visit.
That might be a sign that Jones isn’t all that close to shutting things down. It might, unfortunatel, be a sign that the Huskers aren’t as close to landing their man as it appeared even a month ago.
This is one to keep an eye on for Nebraska football. A loss in this recruiting war will be a problem.
