One of the positives of there being an increase of talent in the state is that the Nebraska football program can legitimately pull quite a few difference makers from its own back yard in recruiting. The downside is that the rest of the country seems to be noticing the uptick in talent.
The biggest case in point for the 2025 recruiting class is Omaha Westside linebacker Christian Jones. The top ranked player in the state according to 247Sports, On3 and Rivals is getting a ton of attention from outside Nebraska. He’s also paying quite a bit of attention to schools outside his home.
On Wednesday night, Steve Wiltfong reported that Jones is preparing to take a recruiting jag to the Sunshine State where he’ll have some unofficial visits to both Florida and UCF. That trip is the beginning of what could be a very busy late winter and early spring for Jones.
On its face, Nebraska football fans may not be worried about someone who has offers from the likes of Notre Dame visiting UCF. Even Florida doesn’t have the same kind of word of mouth it once did. However, the Huskers also don’t have the luxury of poo-pooing away any visit to a power conference school.
Christian Jones, who is also the #13 linebacker and #85 player in the entire 2025 class according to 247Sports is still thought to be a heavy lean to the Cornhuskers. But any team getting its foot in the door should be taken seriously.

The sheer volume of talent that is showing up in and around Omaha especially is starting to see some players trickle away from the Huskers. Teddy Rezac is the most famous case of a player the Nebraska football team not only didn’t lock down, but waited far too long to offer.
It just so happens that Rezac is a former teammate of Christian Jones.
The fight for the talented defender is going to last until signing day, which is still about 10 months away. Buckle up.
