Nebraska football should be worried about Notre Dame and Christian Jones
The Nebraska football team just wrapped up what can only be considered a successful 2024 recruiting cycle. Now it’s time for Matt Rhule and company to move onto the next cycle. Among the people the coaching staff will be focusing on is Christian Jones. The problem is that other schools are focusing hard on him as well.
Among those who are chasing the Omaha Westside star is Notre Dame. There may not be a team that is better suited to steal the defensive whiz out from under Nebraska football the way the Fighting Irish are.
The really bad news here is that it’s possible that the Irish have gotten such a foot in the door that Jones is already got one foot out the door. The 4-star linebacker recently talked to Irish Breakdown about how he feels about the teams who are pursuing him the most.
“Notre Dame is for sure trending to the top of my list,” Christian Jones told the publication. “I like a lot of what they are doing and what they did last season.”
What they did this past season is something that Nebraska football is trying to get back to doing every year. That’s not only winning 10 games but winning in convincing fashion in their bowl game. The Huskers haven’t been to a bowl in years.
Nebraska football should worry about Christian Jones and South Bend
It’s not just that Jones had positive things to say about Notre Dame that should worry Nebraska football backers. There’s also the success head coach Marcus Freeman and company have had in plumbing the Cornhusker State.
This past cycle, the Irish grabbed not one but two Rezac brothers in Teddy and Anthony. It’s notable that both those guys were teammates of the kid who is the top player in the state for the 2025 recruiting class. They’re likely going to have a thing or two to say about going to South Bend.
There is also Xavier Watts. The former Omaha standout is now one of the best defenders in the country. He could be one heck of a recruiting weapon against Nebraska football. And that should make everyone in Lincoln and Omaha nervous.
