The Nebraska football team apparently has quite the fight on its hands for in-state linebacker Christian Jones. There are all kinds of Power Conference teams coming after the state’s top player in 2025 but it seems as though Notre Dame is the team the Huskers really have to worry about.
This isn’t the first time I’ve talked about how much Nebraska football needs to be worried about the Fighting Irish. But it looks as though the concern over the Golden Domers has been renewed and likely increased.
The reason Husker fans should be worried now? Jones is officially planning a visit to South Bend this spring. There was a time it wasn’t clear if that was actually going to happen. In fact, former teammate Caleb Benning went so far as to poke fun at Notre Dame about their pursuit of Jones. It looks like the Irish aren’t going down with the chance of a last laugh.
On Friday, Jones told Irish Breakdown that he plans on taking a visit to see what Notre Dame has to offer for their spring game. He’ll be at the Blue and Gold game on April 20. And after that, he could be looking to line up yet another visit.
Nebraska football’s recruiting rivalry with Notre Dame ramping up already
It appears that Jones’ visit on April 20 is an unofficial visit. However, he’s looking to set an official visit up later in the year as well. None of that is good news for Nebraska football.
Obviously, Matt Rhule and company are ready for a fight for the linebacker. He’s got former teammates on both squads. Both programs are showing him some serious love.
But Rhule also has the added stakes of keeping a homegrown talent, who is going to be one of the most sought-after in the Cornhuskers State, from leaving home. It appears that task is going to get more difficult for the Nebraska football staff this spring.
