Nebraska football signee throws some shade at Notre Dame

One of the most interesting twists in the last few years regarding Nebraska football recruiting has been the repeated battle they've gotten into with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. It appears that head coach Marcus Freeman understands just how much talent is coming out of Omaha and there are few coaches in the country that have come in trying to pluck that talent away from Matt Rhule and company to a similar degree.

The latest player that the Huskers and Golden Domers are fighting over is a linebacker that just happens to be the best player in the state for the 2025 cycle. Christian Jones seems like he's a pretty heavy lean towards the Cornhuskers, but Notre Dame is hoping there's some room to get a toe in.

The rivalry has gotten so heated that some of Jones former teammates are throwing shade at one another and their respective schools. The latest barb was thrown by Nebraska football signee Caleb Benning.

His latest smack talk was aimed at former teammate Teddy Rezac. All three guys were players for the Omaha Westside team that was absolutely dominant on the way to a state title in 2023. While Benning obviously decided he would be a Husker after his high school days, Rezac chose the Fighting Irish.

Benning poked at Rezac, seizing on a report that Christian Jones had set a couple of visits for early in 2024. One of those visits was to see Nebraska football again. Another was to Florida State. And as Benning pointed out, Jones didn't mention any sort of trip to South Bend.

This kind of banter is all in good fun but it does show that a real recruiting rivalry has broken out. In the case of Omaha Westside, Teddy also lured his brother Anthony to Notre Dame as a PWO over Nebraska.

Now Benning is trying to repay the favor by making sure that Christian Jones stays home and eventually commits to the Nebraska football team.
