Nebraska football fans better buckle up. The wild ride that is the Cortez Mills recruitment looks like it has a few more twists and turns.

Even though the 4-star wide receiver doubled down on his commitment to the Oklahoma Sooners not long ago, the Huskers never stopped trying to get the Miami prospect to land in Lincoln. Now, those continued efforts are paying off.

After a few weeks of rumblings that Nebraska football might be on the verge of another big flip, recruiting analysts are starting to take those rumblings and make them predictions. The latest projections have both Steve Wiltfong and Chad Simmons prediction Mills heading to the Huskers.

One of the things that really stands out when talking about Mills is that one embattled coach has been key to potentially getting the flip.

“Homestead (Fla.) wide receiver Cortez Mills is committed to Oklahoma, but in September, the four-star visiting Nebraska for the Colorado game. When the south Florida playmaker committed to the Sooners, it was over the Cornhuskers and Big Red never gave up. They only ramped up their recruitment for Mills and the Big Ten program in Lincoln is picking up some steam late in the process. Mills has a great relationship with Garret McGuire and new offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen has quickly gotten involved too.”

If Nebraska football fans came up with a list of coaches they would like replaced, McGuire would be pretty high up there. Perhaps they should give that another thought.
