Luke Altmyer juices up Nebraska rivalry by slamming commit in since-deleted post

A Nebraska football commitment video sparked a quick reaction from an opposing Big Ten quarterback and the fallout got personal fast.

The team in the Big Ten that draws the most ire from Nebraska football fans has been Iowa for quite a while now for obvious reasons. However, a low-key cold war might have just turned “hot” following the commitment of a top prospect to the Huskers and an Illinois quarterback’s reaction to it.

Taylor announced via a live stream on Thursday that he’d picked the Huskers over Illinois, LSU, Texas A&M and a host of other power conference schools. However, the way he made the announcement rubbed some Illini fans the wrong way. Taylor first put on an Illinois hat and said he was “staying home” before ripping the hat off, and flinging it offscreen, unzipping his hoodie and showing a Nebraska shirt underneath.

Illinois quarterback takes jab at Nebraska commit and Husker fans erupt

With Trae Taylor officially announcing he was actually committing to the Nebraska football program in a way that countless other commits have done in the last few years, some Illini weren’t thrilled. That included the team’s starting quarterback Luke Altmyer who took a shot at the now-rival quarterback in a since-deleted post.

Altmyer retweeted a Barstool Sports tweet that called Taylor’s move “an all time disrespectful pump fake” (apparently forgetting that Barstool’s entire existence is built on being disrespectful) with the caption “corn ball, no pun intended,” using a corn cob emoji in the place of the word corn.

While the Illinois quarterback eventually realized he’d waded into a situation he shouldn’t have, the internet is forever and Nebraska fans weren’t about to allow him to get away with deleting his shot at the Huskers’ newest recruiting win.

“Leave it to Luke Altmyer to judge how one should commit to something!” One Husker fan wrote in reply the now-deleted post while showing a screenshot of all the moves the Illinois quarterback has made in his own college career as the Big Ten team is his third program.

Nothing gets Nebraska football fans as fired up as an opposing player coming after one of their own. Trying to hide that he came after him at all isn’t going to work to defuse the situation either.
