Since Trae Taylor committed to the Nebraska football program, there have been analysts and fans who believe he will eventually flip and go to another team. Those thoughts have persisted despite the 5-star quarterback repeatedly telling anyone who would listen that he’s a strong commit to NU. Now even Taylor’s dad is stepping in, trying to get people to realize his son isn’t going anywhere but Lincoln for college.

Trae Taylor’s father, J.R., has become more vocal on social media ever since his son took heat from an Omaha radio station for simply being positive. One of his latest big posts was about trying to stop people from continuing to claim that his son won’t be a Husker.

The elder father also delivered a bit of an ultimatum.  While it wasn’t explicit, he made it clear that his son will absolutely be a quarterback for NU as long as Matt Rhule and his staff are around.

“Let’s please be clear, if we have these people in the building,” he wrote alongside a picture of the staff. “TRAE WILL BE WITH THEM IN DECEMBER. Stop the Trae is transferring narratives. There is not another head coach or support staff that Trae trusts more.”

J.R. Taylor also wanted people to stop pretending as though Trae Taylor is the same as Dylan Raiola. There are some similarities, especially in the way the two players have worked to peer-recruit since committing to the Cornhuskers. However, Trae’s father wants people to stop thinking of the two as the same person.

Since joining Nebraska, the quarterback’s profile has grown quite a bit. He came into the year rated a 4-star QB and widely considered very good; however, he’s continued to impress analysts across the sport. This summer, he was elevated to a 5-star prospect and the best quarterback in the 2027 class according to 247Sports.

His rise in profile has led several teams to hope that, at some point, they can pry him away from Matt Rhule and Co. That also makes some sense, considering how much fire Rhule has taken since the end of last season. The negative recruiting against Husker commits has almost certainly taken the form of “he won’t be there when you finally arrive.” Taylor’s father’s comments underline that sentiment.

Ohio State has been the most aggressive lately, even trying its best to get the 5-star quarterback to come visit Columbus. However, while Trae Taylor said he was impressed that the Buckeyes wanted him so badly, he declined to visit because he’s locked into Nebraska. Now his father has repeated that message, hoping it will take root and make Husker fans stop guessing at when he’ll leave.
