The Nebraska football team doesn’t have a commit in 2025 yet. There is a very good chance that could change on Thursday afternoon.

4-star quarterback Trae Taylor will officially announce his commitment on May 1. If several recruiting analysts are to be believed, he’ll be pulling the trigger for the Huskers and igniting what Matt Rhule hopes is one heck of a 2027 recruiting class.

Nebraska trending for top QB with Thursday decision on deck

The vibes for Nebraska football and Trae Taylor have been good for quite a while. He moved up his commitment date not long after taking an unofficial visit to Lincoln. He then took a surprise unofficial visit just this past weekend. The point of that visit was supposed to be to meet and greet the fans. Now just a few days after the visit, the Carmel Catholic (IL) quarterback has received among other predictions, a Fongbomb.

On3 analyst Steve Wiltfong’s prediction for the Cornhuskers comes amid a flurry of analysts who all believe his site’s No. 3 quarterback in the entire class and No. 40 player in the 2027 cycle will play his college ball in Lincoln.

Nebraska analyst Sean Callahan and national analyst Ethan McDowell also believe Taylor will be at NU when the smoke clears.

The most interesting part about all of this is that the quarterback has to wait a while to sign on the dotted line. As a 2027 prospect he can’t sign with a school until December of 2026 at the earliest.

That he’s making a commitment so early has led some to believe he might eventually switch classes to 2026, though that would be an interesting twist since the Huskers already their 2026 signal caller in Dayton Raiola.

Regardless, if the Nebraska football team does land Trae Taylor on Thursday, it will be yet another highly rated player at the position since Matt Rhule arrived in Lincoln. Over the years he’s hauled in Dylan Raiola (2024 class), TJ Lateef (2025), Dayton Raiola and then Taylor. That’s quite the accomplishment for a team that struggled to have a Big Ten caliber QB1 under center in the 2023 season.
