The Nebraska football team is on a heater in recruiting with two offensive line commits in two days. Is it possible that one of the next commits will shore up the Huskers' offensive front? It certainly seems that could be the case, considering that offensive tackle Timi Aliu is close to pulling the trigger, and NU has been the leader for quite a while now.
Aliu is one of the more intriguing Husker targets this cycle, if for no other reason than he wasn't even playing football three years ago. He didn’t play football at any level until his sophomore season. He had a good size and length. That was apparent when he earned an offer from East Carolina before he ever played in a football game. That offer came in the summer before his sophomore year. That was the same season he was named an All-Region player.
How did Aliu go from never playing the game to being one of the best in the state? “Just being big and athletic and also having some other guys to play football,” he told Dawg Nation earlier this spring. “It definitely made me want to play football, too.”
Being big and athletic has translated into Aliu being a 4-star prospect, the No. 261 player, No. 20 offensive tackle, and No. 25 player in the state of Georgia in the 2027 class according to the Rivals Industry Rankings. The lineman has come a long way from when the Pirates were the only program pursuing him.
Timi Aliu’s rapid football rise makes Nebraska football’s push even more intriguing
In addition to Nebraska, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Clemson, Auburn, LSU, Ole Miss, Missouri, Pittsburgh, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, Sacramento State, East Carolina, Georgia State, and Liberty have all extended offers to Timi Aliu.
Despite plenty of SEC powers coming after the Locust Grove product, the Huskers don't seem to have lost any momentum. On3 analyst Tim Verghese predicted he would pull the trigger on NU back in March, and while that is currently the only official prediction, plenty of other experts believe Matt Rhule's squad is still winning the fight.
It's not hard to see how the Cornhuskers are staying ahead of the pack. Aliu has already taken four unofficial visits to Lincoln and is planning his official visit to Nebraska on June 19.
Despite taking more visits to the Huskers than any other program, he does plan on taking officials to Florida (on June 4) and Georgia on June 12. Rhule and Geep Wade will have the final say if that schedule stays the way it is now. Considering the new offensive line coach has already reeled in two offensive linemen from Georgia this week, it's a safe bet he knows how to recruit that part of the country.
While Florida is currently considered the team to beat by Rivals' RPM scores, it feels like Georgia will ultimately be the biggest test. Earlier this spring, he took his first visit to see the Bulldogs at practice and came away impressed.
“Just the pace of it, really,” he said. “Just how fast it was. How loud it was. How quick they were to the ball. Just the discipline and the attention to detail. Seeing how they emphasize everything from the splits to the steps to the physicality. It is always a lot that they pay attention to and you see why. That’s why they win.”
Nebraska will have to figure out a way to win the services if Timi Aliu next month. At least they're staying ahead of the competition so far.
