Timi Aliu says Nebraska has nothing to fear, but visits keep telling a different story

For the second time in as many weeks, the writing is on the wall that the Nebraska football program should be worried about losing 4-star offensive line commit Timi Aliu.

For the second time in as many weeks, Aliu claims there’s absolutely nothing to worry about. If that’s true, it would be nice if the 2027 prospect stopped visiting other Power 4 schools. Until he does “shut it down” and makes it clear that there’s zero chance of swaying him by cutting off communication with other teams, there’s reason to worry. Things can change quickly, and even if Aliu says he’s 100% to the Huskers today, a school like Florida or Florida State could find the sales pitch that works.

Aliu was in Tallahassee for the Seminoles' season-opening win against the New Mexico State Aggies. It was his second game visit to see FSU, as his first came last November when they played the Virginia Tech Hokies. That was also the first time Aliu said that Nebraska fans didn’t need to worry. He also told 247Sports he was still very much committed to NU. But he also liked what he saw from the Seminoles.

"It's really just going to see football. I like hearing the band playing. It's all the things that come with game day. I love the energy they had at Florida State. They were locked in to play the game and ready to go.”

This past weekend, Aliu visited the Gators and watched them blow out Campbell, 52-3. With a big win over a clearly overmatched opponent, it’s a safe bet the offensive lineman liked what he saw again. Once again, he took to social media over the weekend to try to tamp down concerns, writing, “I’m not on any type of flip watch. Go ahead, shut that down rn cmon bruh 10000000% committed.”

It is, of course, well within Aliu’s rights to check out any school he wants. Beyond wanting to make sure Nebraska is the place he wants to go to college, kids like Aliu only get to go through this process once (transfer portal notwithstanding). On the flip side, he should understand why continued visits make everyone watching the situation nervous.

Nebraska even has its own situation where they’re trying to flip a prominent committed player by getting him to visit. Ahmad Hudson has said he’s solid with LSU for months. That doesn't stop the Huskers and their fans from holding out hope that the top-ranked tight end in the 2027 class will flip.

Recruiting in this era of college football can be the Wild Wild West. That’s why Nebraska fans can certainly take solace in knowing that Timi Aliu wants them to know he’s not leaving. Those same fans won’t rest easy until he makes it official on signing day.
