Nebraska football head coach Matt Rhule has taken heat over the years for losing out on several talented in-state prospects. The Cornhuskers aren’t letting the grass grow under their feet with 2028 athlete Owen Price. Their offer to the Grand Island Central Catholic prospect came just in time as his profile continues to explode among Power 4 programs.
The Huskers offered Price, who projects as a linebacker at the next level, last Sunday. That offer was one of the latest moves from a program that had a very productive weekend, which included five commits from a total of 16 visitors.
At the time, Nebraska was Price’s first Power 4 offer. His profile began exploding last month when he received his first Division I offer on May 31 from South Dakota State. He was later offered by Miami (OH). The Huskers might have been just the third team to give him an official offer, but Power 4 teams have followed suit rather quickly.
The Huskers were joined on the P4 level by schools that have offered them: Minnesota, Kansas State, and - most impressively of all - Oregon. The Ducks are the latest program to come calling, but with Dan Lanning jumping into the mix, Price will eventually see even more teams chasing the linebacker.
Extremely Blessed to Receive an offer from the University of Oregon!! #AGTG #ScoDucks @CoachMikeLBs @KamranAraghi1 @CoachDanLanning @oleballcoach1 pic.twitter.com/5ASqXhnxXq

Owen Price offer shows Nebraska football moving quickly on rising in-state athlete
Because Price has taken off so quickly, he hasn’t received a ranking from either 247Sports or Rivals, but the 6-foot-3, 210-pounder will almost certainly start to get analysts paying more attention to him over the next few months. All of this is why it’s very good news that Nebraska got its foot in the door after taking heat over the years for waiting far too long, or not making an offer at all.
Price is a multi-talented athlete with a self-reported 10-8 broad jump and a 40 1/2-inch vertical. and runs a 4.51 40-yard dash. The rising junior competed in Nebraska's Class C, playing in varsity football and track and field. Price was part of Grand Island Central Catholic's runner-up finish in the Class C 4x100-meter relay as the second leg of the relay. He also competed in the 100 and 200 meters this spring.
Price also showed quite an improvement on the football field between his first and second seasons with GICC. After playing in nine games as a freshman, tallying 34 total tackles and 4 tackles for loss while nabbing an interception and forcing a fumble, the sophomore aided in an 11-2 season and a runner-up finish for Grand Island Central Catholic last fall. The linebacker recorded 96 total tackles, including 24 tackles for loss, while adding 6 sacks on the season. He also got his second career interception while forcing 3 fumbles and recovering 3 more.
Owen Price was on record as having been over the moon when Nebraska offered during his appearance at a camp last weekend. His comments to analysts, “I was in shock,” clearly mean that Nebraska was able to offer well before he felt like the school was overlooking him. That will be especially important as more schools start turning up the heat. Even if they don’t, Oregon being in the race will make this a very interesting competition all the way up to signing day in 2027.
