Nebraska is watching another in-state lineman blow up while the Huskers still wait

Nebraska football has seen this in-state story turn uncomfortable before, and this latest recruiting rise feels familiar.

Another year, another in-state Nebraska football player who Matt Rhule could miss out on, much to the joy of several Power 4 programs.

This year, concerns over how long it's taking the Huskers to offer offensive lineman Justin Parish Jr. are surfacing quickly. The No. 1-ranked player in the state and No. 19 IOL in the 2028 class has seen his recruiting profile explode over the last month. And yet, NU has yet to give the Omaha Westside product an official offer.

Nebraska football is still talking to Justin Parish Jr. but other offers keep piling up

For his part, Parish doesn't seem particularly bent out of shape by Matt Rhule dragging his feet. He recently told Sean Callahan that Nebraska is in regular contact and he does plan on making a an unofficial visit sometime this summer.

While the in-state player is saying all the right things and making sure to keep things under a boil, the number of schools that have come calling for him, including Penn State, has to have some Nebraska fans scratching their heads over why NU can't give him an offer.

On Friday, Oklahoma State was the latest team to enter the race. In addition to Penn State, he also holds offers from Iowa State, Kansas State, Washington State, and Missouri. Northwestern recently came to Omaha Westside to pay Parish a visit and he's expected to go camp at Alabama this summer.

Nebraska football risks another in-state recruiting headache if the wait drags on

Things get a little more tense when factoring in Amarion Jackson, once an Iowa State commit and now a Penn State player who also never got a Nebraska offer, getting quite a bit of talk about an impact player as a true freshman.

It's an open question whether Matt Rhule is making the right call in not offering some of the best players in the state, or being very late to the game, while they go off to other Power programs. Should Justin Parish go elsewhere, he'll be added to the list of big Nebraska names playing outside the Husker program.
