The Nebraska football team has already had a great recruiting weekend with two commitments and a surprise visit from Ahmad Hudson that could give the Huskers new life in that fight. While all that is good news, what’s even better is that no one really expects Matt Rhule and Co. to be done reeling in pledges. In fact, as of Saturday night, it looks like NU coaches managed to pull off a big commitment flip that has the added bonus of hurting their Big Ten rival, the Minnesota Golden Gophers.
According to On3’s Tim Verghese, the Husker coaches rolled out the red carpet in a big way for the 15 official visitors on Saturday. The festivities included taking everyone to the State Capitol Building for a fancy dinner. After that trip to see one of the most impressive sights in the city of Lincoln, it appears that the dinner was the final step in flipping 3-star EDGE Ma'atoe Moe.
Late on Saturday night, Verghese and fellow Rivals analyst Greg Biggins both put in new predictions for Moe to flip to Nebraska. The predictions came within a few hours of each other, and, perhaps more importantly, both received 65% certainty ratings. As a general rule, when an analyst logs a prediction, it comes in at 60%. Anything more than that usually means they’re actually very, very close to 100% but don’t want to go there just yet.
Should Moe announce his commitment to the Huskers in the coming days, it would be yet another chapter in what has been a very interesting recruiting cycle for the Utah pass rusher.
Ma'atoe Moe could give Nebraska football another recruiting weekend win
Following the Gophers’ first big recruiting weekend, Moe sent out a commitment post on Twitter on Monday before quickly deleting it. After fielding several questions from analysts, he tried to clear things up.
"I did commit to Minnesota, but I’m backing off a bit. I want to see how this visit [to Nebraska] plays out, and then I’ll decide where I’m going after this weekend,” he said later in the week.
Nebraska has pursued Moe throughout his recruiting process, and it sounds like, while he initially pulled the trigger on a commitment to the Gophers, he soon realized he needed to see what the Cornhuskers offered before he shut everything down. As of Sunday morning, it looks like Rhule and Co. showed him more than enough to “flip” a commitment that seemed shaky just minutes after his original post.
Should Moe eventually make the announcement, Nebraska fans are now expecting it to come either on Sunday or Monday; it will be at least the third commitment to come out of a big recruiting weekend. Granted, there could be at least two more pledges before or after him, depending on the timing, and those commitments won’t exactly be shocking.
The other factor Nebraska will need to keep in mind is that the 3-star prospect has already committed once and backed off. Hopefully, the Huskers can first get him into the boat and then make sure he helps row it far away from Minnesota.
